1st and 2nd Inversions

To get the 1st inversion for a minor triad, the minor 3rd becomes the bass, while the 5th and root notes are stacked above it.

b3(Bb) 5(D) 1(G)

To get the second inversion, we follow a similar arrangement, as discussed above, for major chords. The 5th note takes the bass or lowest position, while the root and minor 3rd are placed above it, respectively. As you play, take note of the different positions and sounds of each inversion.

For the C major chord, we have the standard chord shape, 1st, and 2nd inversion as C E G, E G C, and G C E. You may build a chart for as many other chords of interest and practice with those. Being able to play more and more chord inversions is what differentiates you from a beginner who knows only one way to play known chords. Besides, it solidifies your knowledge of the fretboard, as well as enhances your flexibility as a player.
